Gabriele Pazzaglia was born in Montalcino to a historic Tuscan family, gravitating naturally to the regions wine world as both he and the Castello Banfi estate came of age.

Graduating with a degree in winemaking specializing in viticulture, he started his career at Banfi in tandem with one of its greatest vintages, the 1999, which he helped harvest as technical cellar assistant.  He continued his studies over the next few years at the University of Florence specializing in agriculture, including time at the French Institute for Enological Research in Montpellier, while continuing his work as a winemaking analyst for Banfi.  Upon completing his doctorate in Enology in 2004, he became a full assistant winemaker at Banfi shortly thereafter was named Cellar Master.  His priority is on the choice of oak, overseeing estate seasoning of the wood staves, and crafting of the winery’s custom barrels.

In addition to his focus in the cellars, during harvest Gabriele manages Banfi’s Horizon vinification winery, where single vineyard lots from the Castello Banfi estate are fermented in Banfi’s created and patented hybrid fermenters made of oak and stainless steel.  He also oversees the winemaking of ASKA, Banfi’s entry from the Bolgheri.
